Global Wind Service (GWS) UK Ltd has secured a new contract with Siemens Plc. The contract covers the supply of cranes & installation personnel for the installation of 9 x SWT 2.3-101 turbines with a hub height of 73.5m. The wind farm is called Middlewick and is located 2km South East of the village of Southminster on the Essex marshes. The Middlewick project presents a number of interesting challenges. Most significantly, all the turbine components will be craned on to site from a barge in the River Crouch on to a specially constructed crane pad just metres from the river defenses.
Work on the project is due to begin in February and (weather permitting) should last for 9 – 10 weeks.
