This month will see the latest edition to the Global Wind Service (GWS) business family. Global Wind Service GmbH has been set up in Hamburg to tap in to the lucrative German wind market and will begin work in earnest.
In 2010, the installed capacity of wind power in Germany was 27.2 GW comprising more than 21,607 turbines. In 2011, the German federal government announced plans to increase spending on the commercialisation of renewable energy and to increase the number of turbines on German territory.
This represents a sizable market for installation activities, service and maintenance as well as significant opportunity in the re-powering market. Other large opportunities exist in the nascent offshore market off the North coast of Germany. All in all a massive opportunity for the Germany business unit and the GWS group as a whole.
