Eighteen Years at GWS: Marco’s Story of Growth, Trust and Opportunity
Date: May 7, 2026
In an industry defined by constant movement, changing projects and demanding environments, long careers are built on trust, opportunity and the people who make the journey worthwhile.
For Marco Almeida, Site Manager those elements have shaped an eighteen-year career at Global Wind Service.
What started as a job developed into a long-term career across multiple roles, projects and countries, a journey that reflects personal growth, but also the culture and opportunities that continue to define Global Wind Service today.
How has GWS evolved during your eighteen years with the company?
Over the years, I’ve seen GWS grow from a small company into a much more corporate organisation. I still remember the early days, when work clothes were handed out personally by Michael Nielsen, one of the founders. A lot has changed since then. What really matters is that, despite all the growth and added structure, GWS has never lost its family spirit or its human side. For me, GWS is also family and that’s not something you simply walk away from.
Were there any particular moments that shaped your professional journey?
Definitely.
Throughout my career, there were several turning points where people trusted me and gave me opportunities to grow. I started as a technician on a new project, and that opportunity became the foundation for my development and eventually led me into an Installation Lead role.
Years later, project managers encouraged me to take on greater responsibility and supported my transition into a Site Manager role.
Looking back, I think those moments had one thing in common: at every important stage of my career, there was always someone who trusted in me, supported me and pushed me to keep growing.
What makes GWS teams stand out?
The teamwork and experience.
I’ve spent my whole career at GWS, but through conversations with both colleagues and external partners, the feedback is always similar: GWS stands out because of the quality of the work, the hands-on mentality and the experience across different types of projects.
People genuinely support each other on site, and that makes a big difference.
How has GWS supported your development over the years?
I’ve had opportunities to grow, work in different countries and continuously learn throughout my career.
Of course, the industry can be demanding, both physically and mentally, but I always felt there was trust, support and room to move forward. That environment helped me build confidence and continue developing professionally.
What advice would you give to someone starting in the wind industry today?
Be patient, stay humble and never stop learning.
This industry can challenge you, so it’s important to take care of both your safety and your mental well-being. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or ask for help.
At GWS, if you’re willing to put in the effort, there are real opportunities to grow, develop internationally and build a long-term career.
“At GWS, you get real opportunities to grow, work in different countries and develop over time. For many people, it becomes more than just a job. It becomes a place where you can belong.”
