Global Wind Service awarded U.S. offshore project Costal of Virginia
This week Global Wind Service (GWS) signed the contract with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy for pre-assembly and offshore installation of Costal of Virginia wind farm in the USA.
The wind farm, with its two SWT-7.0-154 turbines is the first offshore wind farm in the Mid-Atlantic. At the port of Halifax, Canada, the towers will be assembled and subsequently shipped off to their final destination on the east coast of USA in the Atlantic Ocean.
“We are very happy that our good partner Siemens Gamesa has chosen us for this project. We have worked closely with Siemens for many years and been present locally in the U.S. since 2017, so we are very pleased to be able to serve them also offshore in the country”, says Lars Petersen, CCO of Global Wind Service.
“For us it is important to choose a partner with the relevant experience both from the offshore environment but also with a relevant track record from the North American wind market. Having worked in close collaboration with Global Wind Service for many years, we know that they will meet our expectations when it comes to having the right safety and quality mindset” Says Hervé Bouraima, Global Commodity Manager, Strategic Procurement at Siemens Gamesa.
Once the two turbines are installed Global Wind Service will have installed all offshore wind turbines in the U.S. In 2016, GWS installed the first-ever offshore wind farm in USA, Block Island.
