GE Vernova and Global Wind Service join forces at Vineyard Wind 1 installation. Earlier this year, GE Vernova selected Global Wind Service (GWS) as sole partner for the offshore installation of Vineyard Wind 1, the first commercial-scale offshore wind project in the U.S. This partnership follows a history of successful collaboration on both onshore and offshore projects, including the installation of Block Island Wind Farm in 2016 - the first offshore wind turbines to be installed in the United States.
.... GWS will continue our successful track record for offshore wind installation in the U.S., having already installed Block Island and Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind, pilot project.
Commenting on the partnership, CCO at Global Wind Service Lars Petersen said:
"I'm thrilled that GE Vernova has once again selected GWS as their trusted partner - especially for a groundbreaking project as Vineyard Wind 1. This project is not only significant for GE, but also for the entire offshore wind industry in the U.S."
Vineyard Wind 1 will consist of 62 of the new GE Haliade X turbines once complete. It is located 15 miles (24 KM) off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts. The wind farm will reduce carbon emissions with 1.6 million tons a year and produce 800 megawatt of green electricity powering more than 400,000 homes and businesses.
"In 2017, we opened our U.S. office and initially focused on onshore installation and re-power projects. However, I am delighted to see that offshore wind projects are now also taking off. The emergence of offshore wind played a significant role in our decision to establish a permanent presence in the U.S.
I am proud to say that GWS will continue our successful track record for offshore wind installation in the U.S., having already installed Block Island and Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind, pilot project," Lars explained.
