At the beginning of June a team from Global Wind Service (GWS) UK travelled to a wind farm in Northern Ireland to field test a number of new service lines. An innovative combination of rope access, suspended platform and rapid UV cure repair systems were put through their paces in a complete spectrum of weather conditions. Come rain or shine the combined system proved to be an extremely viable solution for complete turbine overhaul realising massive down-time savings in the process. Using this system we can now inspect, test, clean and repair blades in the air with an average turbine only taking a maximum of three days from start to finish.
‘We are really happy with the results of our field tests. The systems far outperformed our expectation and we hope to have the full system ready for full market deployment by the end of the summer’ said UK Operations Manager Thomas Eves.
This innovative blade repair system will but GWS at the very forefront of blade repair within the UK market. Watch this space – more field test results to follow.
