On April 30 of 2020, Global Wind Service (GWS) finished pre-assembly on the last of 102 Siemens SWT-7.0-154 offshore wind turbines for East Anglia ONE Offshore Wind Farm at the pre-assembly site in the port of Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.
GWS was selected by Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy as their preferred partner for the tower pre-assembly and 66kV High Voltage scope which commenced mid-March 2019. GWS multi-skilled technicians have been working alongside specialized HV-technicians from our joint venture partner Delpro Wind.
A mix of different nationalities has been working on the project together, but it has been a priority for GWS to employ a high percentage of UK technicians. Our teams were originally tasked with delivering assembled components for one installation vessel. However, in close collaboration with Siemens Gamesa it was decided to deploy a second installation vessel from December 2019 onwards, resulting in superior and very efficient teamwork from all parties involved.
“Times like these, working under the constant threat of COVID-19 really complicates our work. But our employees all over the world both in the field and back office are doing an excellent job, securing project progress and the team at East Anglia ONE is no exception. The close collaboration we have with our clients is remarkable and working with Siemens on this project has been a real pleasure” says Lars Petersen, CCO at Global Wind Service.
East Anglia ONE is the first project where Siemens Gamesa’s new Tower-Tower Bumper System has been utilized. This is a new robotic-like technique for tower landing, making it more efficient and safer for everybody involved.
East Anglia ONE is located in the Southern North Sea, approximately 43km off the Suffolk coast.
Once in full operation in 2020 the installed power capacity of 714 MW will be supplying green energy to around 600,000 British households.
As such, it will be one of the largest offshore wind power plants in the world built on an investment of around 3 billion euros.
